New Soundscape Video: 'Spring'

May 3, 11:00-12:00 at The Bently Reserve in San Francisco the wedding trade group WIPA hosts a luncheon using my Video Soundscape 'Spring' as an ambient, background experience. It will be shown on a 7 X 10 foot sceen in the main hall. One can preview it here:

New entertainment service: 'Soundscapes'. In 2010 these have proved quite popular at various events (see "Clients") on the web site below. So much so that we have created an exclusive website for them. A new feature of the service is the video component to complement the custom sound portraits. Soundscapes are rented for installation at corporate and wedding events. We also design them for a custom event theme.

September 18-

'The Big Wedding Event' for which I booked a variety of talent at San Francisco City Hall has come and gone. Just for the musical element, this lead time constituted 8 months of planning accumulating hundreds of documents, e mails and files. It was a crowning career achievement for many vendors. The bride is from Thailand, age 30; the groom an investment banker from England, age 60. Both reside in the SF. On the 'day of', the wedding planner had a staff of 16 all sporting head sets, the florist for her installation a staff of 35. I was the music booking agent of record with a second agent in from Los Angeles. One band was "California", the official 9 piece house band for 'American Idol'. The featured Show band was the 6 piece "Village People" with three original members. The ceremony included a 10 piece Brass Choir in the Rotunda's first balcony. The 25 piece Thai orchestra and costumed dancers originally contracted for the event had to be cancelled due to visa issues in that turbulent country. That element was replaced by a Bangkok CD and indigenous furniture! With many challenges met along the way the 'day-of' was actually quite flawless!

September 23 the agency installed a custom Soundscape for an event at the San Francisco Fairmont Hotel. This client wanted a sports theme. They had organized an LSU Football Tailgate party for all their university alumni. The audio portrait was a 30 minute loop that included: music, nature sounds; game announcer (snuck in a few audio moments from the recent Saints & 49ers game--which we lost !) . Clients were transported by these sounds to the football experience which, absent visual images, was uniquely stimulating in the way radio can be over television.

New Product:

This year the music agency has a new 'green' product. We take the sounds from the environment and create sonic portraits 'bringing the outside inside'. The two types of portraits are: 1) Nature Sounds: Birds, the Ocean; Wind/Rain, etc; 2) Urban Sounds: Cable Cars; Streets of San Francisco; Las Vegas Casino; The Circus; etc. .

The sound files are played on concealed speakers in the event space as an ambient sound. The contents of each are 8-25 minutes in a loop of very detailed material: sound effects; music; spoken word. The Sound File can also be exported to an event site anywhere in the world with a web connection.

December also found our services for a division of Google 's 800 employee holiday party at SF City Hall Dec. 4. Their Speakeasy Theme required a 1930's Swing Band. Casino gambling as far as the eye could see that night.

2009 was certainly a leaner year for Corporate Employee holiday parties this time around. The agency was however happily challenged by the Cirque Theme for the Facebook party Dec. 11 at the SF Galleria with 900 attendees. Trapeze artists, stilt walkers, lumi light performers, contortionists and many more.

Hotel W

Many Hotels today are emerging from their traditional isolation, reaching out to the public and through vendors and event planners trying to be more proactive about their unique event spaces. At Hotel W on Wednesday their ballroom was lit in high tech fashion with blacks and lavender. Their roof top has been tented affording views to the Northwest and a very large space for more dancing and other festivities with interesting 'cabana type' niches. The elevator ride up was a highlight with a 3-D wall image of flowers.

This must be the third hotel 'roof top' tent in San Francisco competing for longevity with the City Permitting Office. Also at the St Regis and Hotel Vitale weekly or monthly time limits are strictly enforced with these architectural alterations to the original building's profile.

Looking up from a recent Potrero Hill morning walk with my dog I spied a gigantic gas powered barbecue with hood on the roof of a nearby house. Nice.

Sunday, October 4 was Open House Day at the splendid San Francisco City Club. On this occasion its cheerful staffers Michelle, Cassie & Alison, added a few things: 40 wedding vendors & 400 attendees at a special Bridal Show. Any excuse to visit this historic, well preserved site with its floor to ceiling Diego Rivera mural is not to be missed. Our music resources were in full display for the brides and grooms to be.

In these times the phrase 'just go to my web site' is all too common. How much nicer then to have an opportunity to actually meet the person behind the site and discover the personality with whom business will be conducted. That to me is one of the most important aspects of any Wedding Trade Show.

The Agency sends out periodic multi-media Flyers. Two recent ones that will be of interest:

1) Dance Entertainment-many are finding that breaking up the music of a live Band or a DJ with a short dance performance by a couple can be quite refreshing for event attendees. This can occur several times during the course of the event. Consider: Ballroom, Tango, Flamenco, Middle Eastern, Bollywood, Chinese (Peacock Dance), Irish Step dancing.

2) Solo Musicians-In this economy people are economizing with a single performer. Consider: harp, piano, guitar, accordion, violin, cello, saxophone or guitar (over pre-recorded tracks), jukebox rental and of course DJ.

Live Music vs Disc Jockey

This age old battle between 'live' performers in a Dance Band and a 'dead' performer with 'canned' music from a DJ has at long last been resolved. We declared a truce and combined the two for the best of both worlds. Our 7 piece Dance Band performs on stage together with the DJ on stage. Gone are the traditional limits to repertoire and length of performance. Its non-stop with plenty of tune variety and visual appeal.

Who designed the Hyatt Embarcadero Center an the late 1970's with its rotating restaurant, and indoor pond with round 30 foot scupture? International architect Grover Dear of course. He was in the Bay Area from his Hong Kong offices for 4 days for his birthday celebration with an international guest list of admirers. Plenty of music was staged by The Rudolfi Music Agency.

As was to be expected, this client had quite exacting standards!

Check it out if your are in the area. Cost Plus celebrated its 50th anniversary last December at which we presented Tibetan Bells in their ancient rug department among other things.
This store used to be a destination stop for visitors and tourists to the area.

The Wedding University February 8 at the Four Seasons Hotel was a success.

What started as a simple educational idea several months ago blossomed into a format

with 12 'professors' presenting in various areas of expertise: music; photo; decor; attire.

I spoke about having performing musicians during various parts of the wedding, i.e 'live music'.

My associates and I have created a different service for the prospective Bride & Groom: The Wedding University. Wedding Planners Jubilee Lau and Jeanne Marks started the idea.

This one day, 5 hour event Sunday, February 8 at the Four Seasons Hotel, Palo Alto is designed to be educational. Specialists in: music, video, photography, florals, & design present short classes through which participants rotate throughout the day. Limited to 150 people.
